From the composer: This work was written in 2015. I had never written for bassoon before but was drawn to its dark color and expressive sound. The allemande was inspired by the first movement of Bach's partita for solo flute (BWV 1013) and it is quite long and challenging for the player. The largo is inspired by Vivaldi's writing for wind instruments even though it might not be as virtuoso as some of his compositions. The final gigue is energetic but shouldn't be played in a way so that the notes are muddied. This suite may be adapted for any manner of bass-clef reading instruments.
